The monthly meeting
On Monday the 19th of January 2009 there will be a meeting to swear in the new executive members of our local lodge. The term begins on that date and lasts three years. During this period the executive members will manage and administer the local lodge and account for their activities, to the members at the monthly meeting. From there, members can debate and then either ratify or reject all the decisions submitted to them.
This Monday, among other subjects open for discussion, you will need to decide on a change to our local lodge by-laws. Presently the rule stipulates that of the 5 members of the negotiation committee, the president of the union and the president of the shop committee are automatically in, whereas the other 3 members are elected. The proposed change would make all 5 positions elective. Your opinion can make a difference and your vote has as much weight as that of a member of the executive committee...
This is the kind of involvement I expect from you, because it is in the interest of all of us.
The Monthly meeting is held every third Monday of each month. The next one will be held on
Monday, January 19, 2009 Holiday Inn Hotel, 6500 Côte de Liesse, Perle room at 3:35 pm

Pan-Canadian day of protest against Bill C-484 On September 28, say “No” to Bill C-484 Bill C-484, the "Unborn Victims of Crime Act" passed second reading in Parliament last March... This bill would make it a separate offence to injure or kill a foetus during a crime committed against a pregnant woman. However, this bill is insidious. On the pretext of better protecting pregnant women, it could imperil women’s rights and autonomy. If it was adopted, it would establish the foetus as a new legal entity, a precedent which would set the table for challenging the right to abortion, and which could also lead to the criminalisation of certain pregnant women for behaviour deemed to be dangerous for the foetus. This bill is not an adequate response to address the issue of violence against women, whether or not they are pregnant. Bill C-484, actively supported by extremely active anti-choice groups, must not be allowed to pass the next vote in the House of Commons. This is why a large Canada-wide day of protest is scheduled for Sunday September 28, 2008, with protests being staged in many large Canadian cities, in order to state vigorously that the population opposes this bill that will turn the clock back 20 years for women’s rights. Block Sunday September 28, 2008 in your planners right away, speak to your colleagues, friends, relatives, and come out in large numbers to say No to Bill C-484! For more information on Bill C-484 and details regarding the Montreal protest, we urge you to visit the web site of the FQPN www.fqpn.qc.ca and the FFQ www.ffq.qc.ca. ____________________________________________
